At St. John Vianney, we believe our faith should be infused into everything we do, say, and teach. Children pray in the morning and before meals. They celebrate their Catholic faith in special ways like weekly Mass, weekly benediction, May Crowning, Stations of the Cross during Lent, Catholic Schools Week, and more. Of course, studying our faith is an important part of our curriculum and in addition to dedicated classes in religion, it is incorporated into every subject.
From the earliest grades, students learn how to be “Christ-kind” to others and participate in service to help those in need. They are taught how to model their behavior after Christ so that they can treat themselves and others with love and respect.
In school, students take part in many service projects, which range from collecting shoes, school supplies, and coats for less-fortunate students to donating money to buy rice and animals for families around the world to writing letters thanking those in the military. We also teach our students to be servant leaders in our local community. Students are actively involved in various community-service projects such as helping ECHO distribute food at Thanksgiving, planting trees at area parks, and visiting with and performing for the residents at St. Elizabeth Home and Manor.
There are many ways in which we incorporate faith into the structure of our school. Younger kids are paired with buddies in the upper grades to foster friendships and provide positive role models. At the weekly school Mass, the kindergarten students sit with their 8th grade buddies, an exciting tradition for the kids here at St. John Vianney. School Masses also give students the chance to be lectors, cantors, gift bearers, altar servers, and choir members.
We are incredibly proud of St. John Vianney School’s reputation for academic excellence and feel blessed that our students can learn and play in facilities that are safe, well-equipped, and technologically advanced. But what’s most important to us is the fact that our Catholic faith inspires everything we do.
